Walk it Out!

I'm taking a little vacation December 24th-January 5th. Guess what I'll be doing every single day during this time. Attempting to exercise and walk at least 2 miles. I'm still not under 300lbs. And what sucks is that every morning I get on the scale I'm 5lbs lighter...every evening I've seemed to gain it all back. My girlfriend says its water weight...I hate water weight. I guess the bright side is that I'm not going over my start weight (if you wanna call it a bright side :-)

Here's the plan:

Update shuffle with only banging hip hop (T.I, Lil Jon, etc.)

Get a new pair of cotton shorts (because let me tell you trying to do anything in basketball shorts other than playing basketball is not good on the the thighs.)

Begin Power Walking.

I think once I get a steady heart rate and feel as though I've actually done something other than wander, I'll hit up the gym and do some strength training.

I have the motivation and determination...I just have to act on it.

What the hell are you waiting for?

So...I planned on going for a power walk at some point this week. That didn't happen. I think I try and convince myself that I don't have time, but I know I do. Instead of watching tv for 3hrs straight I could hit the gym for an hour. But I haven't. So I wonder...what the hell am I waiting for? The weight isn't going to fall off overnight. I'm not going to wake up and be smaller. I just have to figure out how to get out of the house.

It's only been a week and though I have a lot more energy from eating healthier (no fast food, junk food, or soda in a week) I still feel like I'm not being the change I want to see.

My friend D thinks we should try out for the Biggest Loser or Made, but my theory is if I can't get my fat ass out of bed now to exercise I probably won't do it on national television either. I'll be the one in the back of the pack complaining of worn out limbs and chest pains.

The only thing that pushing me right now is the thought that I'm going to kill over and die at any moment if I don't get into shape. But for some reason its still not pushing me in the direction of the gym.

Hopefully...I'll get there soon...I still don't know what the hell I'm waiting for...

Single Ladies

"If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it!" is my new favorite catch phrase. I'll admit I'm a fan of Beyonce's work but nothing has caught my ear as much as this song. Its the perfect song to dance to. Unfortunately for me my body does not move like Beyonce's. In fact my body moves a little more than Beyonce's...when I stop sometimes it still moves...Ah....

I love to dance though. I have no shame (though sometimes I should), and dance my heart out and sometimes I even drop it like its hot (though I may need assitance getting back up). But this song and this video have inspired me. I mean its constant movement from beginning to end, and I've seen countless youtube videos of people trying to imitate her dance moves. It got me to thinking, this would be the perfect routine to workout to.

I went to a hip-hop exercise class once, and at the end of it I felt like all I did was learn how to do really cool dance moves. I got more exercise going up and down the stairs to get into the building for the class. Single Ladies is a whole nother ball game. I've seen her do about 5 live performances of this and her backup dancers look utterly exhausted after the routine is over. Attempting to inhale and exhale subtly failing miserable to a keen observer.

So my mission is to learn that dance routine during christmas break and be able to perform it from beginning to end. Consider it a New Year's Resolution...

Dance as if no one is looking...Always!

Peace

Finally...

This blog is long overdue. I finally had a wake up call while lying in bed eating a double cheeseburger...I AM OVERWEIGHT. And if I don't get my shit together soon I most likely won't see the other side of 30. This blog is about me (and my friend D) and our journey to get fit and live a healthy lifestyle.

I've always been chubby. ALWAYS. As a kid I just thought it was gonna happen regardless because my mother is overweight. When you take that and add in the fact that we ate out more than anybody ever should probably didn't help. I've tried many diets (slim fast & Tim Ferriss' just to name a few). Both diets worked, but the former was too expensive and the latter was too restrictive. So after 3 months of dieting and 24lbs down...I gave up...and gained it all back.

I hear this is a common reaction...And because I hate commonality I'm trying something a little different. Fuck the diets and the fads. I'm making a lifestyle change. No fast food...no soda...no junk food...small steps, but fucking painful when you use to live off of McDonald's for breakfast, Burger King for lunch and Popeye's for dinner. Its been 3 days so far and I'm starving like a mofo, but I'm determined. Too many people in my family suffer from high blood pressure. high cholesterol, and heart disease. At the age of 37 my aunt had a stroke. My paternal grandfather died from complications to a stroke. My dad and his mom both suffer from diabetes. Are the odds against me...yeah. But I'll be damn if I give in to these diseases willing.

I want to lose weight for so many reasons. For starters my boobs are gigantic and I'm afraid to go under the knife. I've always wanted to rock graphic tees but I feel like the print doesn't look as cool across size G breasts. I hate that my thighs rub together. I want to walk up the stairs and not be out of breath when I get to the 2nd landing. I don't want to have to size up the damn booths at restaurants to see if I will fit (that should have been number 1). I know being smaller doesn't bring instant happiness, but being able to fit comfortably in a regular pair of jeans is good enough :-).

I'm inviting you on a very emotional journey. Wish me luck.

Here are my stats:

Age: 24 (25 in a month)
Current Weight: 317lb (dayyuuuummm)
Height: 5'8"

Goal Weight: 180 (for now)
